About Richard
Richard Hillier is building Senior Connections Canada around a simple idea: seniors and families should be able to find trustworthy information, practical help and a sensible next step without fighting through confusing systems.
The goal is not to be everything to everyone. It is to make useful information easier to understand, connect people with appropriate local support, and make it easy to reach a real person when that is the better option.
Why I created Senior Connections Canada
Too often, good services and useful information are scattered across different organizations, websites and systems. Seniors and families can spend a lot of time trying to work out who does what, what is trustworthy, and where to start.
Senior Connections Canada is being developed to make that first step simpler — beginning locally in Smiths Falls, Perth and communities across Lanark County, while building useful information that can help seniors and families more broadly.
My background
My professional background is in project management, technology and solving practical problems. That experience shapes how I approach Senior Connections Canada: understand the real need first, make the process clear, and build solutions that people can actually use.
Technology can be extremely useful, but it should reduce frustration rather than create another barrier. That is why this site is being designed around plain language, readable pages, simple choices and a human fallback.
How I approach this work
- People first. The answer should fit the person, not force the person to fit a system.
- Clear and practical. Start with the best next step, then provide more detail when it is useful.
- Trust matters. Recommendations, partnerships and commercial relationships should be transparent.
- Know the boundaries. When a need belongs with a regulated professional or another organization, I will say so.
- Work with the community. Good local organizations should complement one another rather than duplicate services unnecessarily.
Local first, useful more broadly
Hands-on support is being developed first for Smiths Falls, Perth and communities across Lanark County. The information and digital resources on this site can grow beyond that local service area when they are useful to seniors and families elsewhere in Canada.
Important boundary: Senior Connections Canada provides practical information, navigation and non-medical support. It does not replace medical, legal, financial or other regulated professional advice.
